SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – People dealing with wrist pain stemming from osteoarthritis may have a new option. Sanford launched a stem cell trial last fall and is still accepting participants. While refereeing a basketball game in his 20’s, Bill Smith fell and landed on his wrist. At the time the injury seemed to heal on its own but now at the age of 69 he’s feeling the pain. “Over the years I didn’t pay much attention to that. It didn’t hurt anymore until, about a dozen years ago I had a lot of pain in my wrist,” Smith said. X-rays showed areas of bone to bone and his cartilage was nonexistent. “I have real limited motion in that wrist you know this is my good wrist, this is my wrist that’s been injured. I have difficulty moving that,” Smith said.
